In the first few lessons, beginners will be introduced to the foundational elements of tennis in a structured yet adaptable way. Our coaches focus on building a strong base of skills and confidence, starting with the correct grip, which is essential for control, consistency, and injury prevention. Beginners often start with the Eastern Forehand or Semi Western Grip, which is straightforward, comfortable, and ideal for mastering the forehand stroke. As lessons progress, the coach will introduce other grips, such as the Continental and Eastern Backhand, which are key for different strokes and situations on the court. Each grip serves a unique purpose, and understanding the basics of grip positioning is essential for all beginners.
In the first lesson, you’ll start by learning and practicing the forehand and backhand stroke, focusing on fundamental techniques like body positioning, follow-through, and balance. The ground strokes are typically the first thing learned by beginners because of its natural, open stance and wide range of applications. Through short drills and controlled exercises, you’ll gain comfort and consistency with these key strokes, practicing simple rallies with your coach to build timing and hand-eye coordination.
In the first lesson, you’ll also be introduced to the beginner serve. This fundamental part of tennis combines grip, stance, and ball toss technique, all of which will be broken down step-by-step. The serve is often one of the most challenging aspects for new players, but with practice and the coach’s guidance, you’ll learn to feel comfortable and confident with this skill.
