Here’s what you can look forward to in your first few sessions with us, as we guide you on your journey to becoming a skilled and confident player!
What you can expect!
In the first few lessons, beginners will be introduced to the foundational elements of tennis in a structured yet adaptable way. Our coaches focus on building a strong base of skills and confidence, starting with the correct grip, which is essential for control, consistency, and injury prevention. Beginners often start with the Eastern Forehand or Semi Western Grip, which is straightforward, comfortable, and ideal for mastering the forehand stroke. As lessons progress, the coach will introduce other grips, such as the Continental and Eastern Backhand, which are key for different strokes and situations on the court. Each grip serves a unique purpose, and understanding the basics of grip positioning is essential for all beginners.
In the first lesson, you’ll start by learning and practicing the forehand and backhand stroke, focusing on fundamental techniques like body positioning, follow-through, and balance. The ground strokes is typically the first thing learned by beginners because of its natural, open stance and wide range of applications. Through short drills and controlled exercises, you’ll gain comfort and consistency with this key stroke, practicing simple rallies with your coach to build timing and hand-eye coordination.
In the first lesson, you’ll also be introduced to the beginner serve. This fundamental part of tennis combines grip, stance, and ball toss technique, all of which will be broken down step-by-step. The serve is often one of the most challenging aspects for new players, but with practice and the coach’s guidance, you’ll learn to feel comfortable and confident with this skill.
What to bring to your first lesson
For your first lesson with Top Tennis Academy, we recommend coming prepared with a few essentials to ensure a comfortable and enjoyable session. If you have a tennis racket, bring it along; however, if you’re just getting started and don’t have one yet, we’re happy to provide a racket for you to use during the lesson.
These items will help you focus fully on the lesson and make the most of your time on the court. If you have any questions about equipment or need further guidance, don’t hesitate to reach out. We’re excited to help you begin your tennis journey!
